Comprised of nearly 100 singers, the Orpheus Male Chorus of Phoenix is the longest-standing, continuously performing choral organization in the state of Arizona. Formed in 1929, Orpheus has been entertaining audiences in Arizona, the United States, and even around the world for over 90 years with a range of music stretching from classical and popular fare to bar room ditties. While Orpheus performs eight to ten formal concerts per year, it is what we do beyond the concerts that we are most proud of.
Orpheus has a strong scholarship program that provides funding for students at all levels who are interested in singing, from assistance with tuition in youth choruses to assisting with college expenses.
Educational outreach is a staple with Orpheus. Yearly, Orpheus sponsor a male voice festival, bringing junior high school and high school aged students together with male singers from local choruses in an all-day vocal clinic culminating in a concert performed by participating groups and school choruses. In addition to this annual festival, Orpheus annually goes into local elementary schools to sing and interact with students, answering any questions they have about Orpheus, our makeup, and singing in general.
Orpheus has historically performed for free at fundraisers for local non-profit organizations and annually conducts a benefit concert, with all proceeds going to a local non-profit organization.
Finally, Orpheus likes to get their hands dirty…literally. Orpheus members have painted houses and buildings housing a thrift store and food closet, helped build houses, answered phones for pledge drives, and packed food boxes for the needy.
We are proud to be a part of our community and work hard to help other community members.
